Marital Tune up for Men: Analyzing the State of Your Union

From the Men's Magazine "Best Life", Here's how to make sure you and the misses are firing on all cylinders.

-by  Katy McColl

Cars are easy: Change the oil, check the belts, rotate the tires, done. Relationship maintenance is a bit more difficult. So after consulting the experts, we developed this diagnostic check to help you assess the wear and tear on your marital vows. Instead of taking your marriage into the shop and having someone else look at it, these tools are about learning to listen to the important cues in your relationship, says professor William Doherty, PhD, director of the marriage and family therapy program at the University of Minnesota and author of Take Back Your Marriage: Sticking Together in a World That Pulls Us Apart. Click here to see Doherty's 5 point check-up for your marriage.

What is The Third Option?

Most struggling couples see two options: Painful marriage or divorce.  But there is a Third Option, a way to a better marriage.

The Third Option is a marriage education program and peer ministry that is offered to couples at no-cost.

Is this counseling?

No. The Third Option is not counseling. It is an educational and support group where we learn and encourage each other along the way. However, we recommend participants seek counseling when appropriate. It is possible to do both.

The Third Option is peer ministry and a psycho-educational program. It combines: a support group, mentor couples and workshops on relationship skills. Click here to see why many couples will come to The Third Option rather than counseling.

Can Corporate America See Valuing Marriage Positively Affects Bottom Line?

While traditionally the world of business and the world of marriage and family relationships have remained disconnected, it is clear they have a major impact on each other. Building marriage and family wellness improves a company's overall financial health, while ignoring these opportunities can decrease a company's profitability.

American trends in marriage and family life are changing rapidly. Over 90% of all Americans will marry at some point in their lives, yet almost 50% of these relationships end in dissolution, and cohabitation is quickly becoming the norm for couples of all ages.

Marriage, however, still confers certain unique benefits on participants.  In their Research & Reports section,

Smartmarriages.com  references a report entitled "Marriage & Family Wellness:  Corporate America's Business?"  Click here to see the compelling evidence that will get corporate America's attention regarding marriage.
