What counts in making a happy marriage is not so much how compatible you are, but how you deal with incompatibility.

Emerson Teaching Love & Respect at Postma Center

Dr. Eggerichs will be speaking to clinicians and church staff on September 17

Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, author of the nationally acclaimed best selling book, "Love and Respect" will be taking a break from his busy schedule of speaking to churches to present the clinical components behind his popular marital program.

Love and Respect have been identified time and again by research on marriage and families, as Gottman among others identified these two qualities as essential in building positive sentiment override in relationships.  Creating this helps couples in establishing new patterns and helps create a reservoir of marital strength.  Ultimately these patterns become the basis for marital repair and interaction during periods of change, crisis and conflict.

In this "train the trainer" workshop, the morning event will be a lecture for clinicians with a separate luncheon afterward specifically for pastors and church leaders.

Click here to register for the lecture at the Postma Center.  Cost $30.

Click here to register for the continuation luncheon at Hillside Community Church.  Cost $10.

What's different about couples who stay happily married?

We finally know ...

It's not that they are better matched, better looking, more in love or more passionate. It's not that they have fewer differences or less to fight about. In fact, successful couples have the same number ofdisagreements as the couples who divorce.Even more interesting, all couples disagree about all the sameissues - money, kids, sex, housework, in-laws and time.

The difference between successful and unsuccessful

couples is how they handle their differences.  Successful couples disagree in a way that makes their relationship stronger.  They also have other skills, knowledge and attitudes which help them build and maintain long-term happiness and satisfaction.

The good news is that anyone can learn to do it better and smarter.  Couples can unlearn the behaviors that destroy love and replace them with the behaviors that keep love alive.  All couples need the same information and the same basic skills.  Couples can use the tools to build a good relationship from the ground up, to keep a good relationship healthy - or to rebuild a marriage or relationship that's seriously in need of repair.  It turns out you CAN learn how to get the feeling back.......and keep love alive.
