Strengthening Family Resilience
Wednesday, June 4, 2008
Noon - 1:30pm

 Froma Walsh, Ph.D.
Professor in the School of Social Service Administration and Department of Psychiatry, University of Chicago

Dr. Froma Walsh will present an overview of the family resilience framework, identifying key processes that pastors and clinicians can facilitate to help distress couples and families rebound from crises, heal from trauma or loss, and master the challenges of chronic, multi-stress conditions at the Marriage and Family Building Series luncheon.  She will focus, in particular, on the power of relational “lifelines” and spirituality for meaning; making hope and positive growth possible out of adversity.  This collaborative approach strengthens bonds and resourcefulness in meeting future life challenges.  To register, call 616.455.5279.  Cost: $10, lunch included.

Dr. Walsh will also be speaking earlier that day for the Pine Rest Institute for Spiritual Care from 8:30 to 11:30 am.  Her talk, aimed at therapists, clinicians and social workers, is titled “Spirituality, Suffering, and Family Resilience: An Integrative Practice Approach,” and will explore key family beliefs and communication processes which enable families to strengthen bonds and tap spiritual wellsprings for resilience. She will also give practice guidelines and case illustrations to promote and illustrate psycho-social-spiritual healing, wellbeing, and growth.  To register, please call 616.455.5279.  No cost.
